What is a long-form visual project?

A long-form visual project is a sustained, in-depth photographic or visual storytelling project that explores a subject, theme, or issue over time, rather than in a single image or brief series.

In street photography or documentary work, this might include:

  • A photo essay documenting life in a specific neighbourhood or community over months or years

  • A thematic series exploring a social issue (e.g. homelessness, youth culture, gentrification, protest)

  • A visual diary or chronicle of daily life in a particular place, often with an evolving narrative

  • Collaborative storytelling that involves working with individuals or communities to co-create a body of work
